On the Wright track at designjunction (8th October 2011)

This year we enjoyed great success at the first UK designjunction exhibition in Holborn. Modus collaborated with The Wright Brothers to bring to life designjunction’s very own pop-up champagne and oyster bar.
Designed by British designer Michael Sodeau and manufactured by Modus with Valchromat and with a stunning pewter bar top by Verdigris, this bustling bar was the talking point of the show.Visitors enjoyed champagne and oysters while perched on the Noughts and Crosses bar stools.
Adjacent to the bar were pieces from our new collection including the Park Lane sofa by Christophe Pillet, Gecko table collection by Swedish architects Claesson Koivisto Rune, Part Sofa and PLC table from Brit design duo PearsonLloyd and the Drew furniture range by newcomer Kirsty Whyte.
The highly versatile StickingSticks dividing system by Kawamura Ganjavian, in conjunction with Velcro, also made a re-appearance, following its Milan debut earlier this year.

PechaKucha Night returned to London (7th October 2011)

PechaKucha night returned to London for the festival under the new guardianship of Modus. This captivating presentation concept took place at designjunction and will be the first of many across the capital.
Designers and commentators such as Shin Azumi, Luke Pearson, Sam Johnson, Beau McClellan, Marcus Fairs, Helen Parton took to the stage at designjunction for an enthralling packed-out PechaKucha night. Highlights included designer Sam Johnson, who took the topic of profile pictures to hilarious ends. Design entrepreneur Marcus Fairs decided to keep it local for his twenty slides, entertaining the crowd with his tales from Stoke Newington, while Beau McClellan spoke about why creative freedom matters so much to artists, musicians, designers, ending his talk with a note perfect harmonica performance.
Over the next year, this exciting development means there will be a number PechaKucha nights held at different locations throughout the capital. The next event is likely to be at the Design Museum next month. Don’t miss out on your chance to attend these fast-paced, creatively-stimulating debates.

Modus tell their manufacturing story with recent ‘Process’ installation (7th October 2011)

Last month we celebrated the London Design Festival with a striking installation at our showroom in Clerkenwell. Entitled ‘Process’ the exhibition laid bare our furniture making story, from the drawing board to the finished display models.
The step-by-step journey to manufacture was told through drawings, images, prototypes and models. Processes such as cold cure polyurethane injection moulding, aluminium casting and CNC tube and rod manipulation were comprehensively explained so that visitors could see how Modus marries these modern techniques with more traditional joinery and upholstery.
Pechakucha at designjunction (14 September 2011)

The PechaKucha night phenomenon began in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network and share their ideas. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, this simple and effective format requires the speaker to show 20 images, each for 20 seconds.
This rapid paced presentation format will now come to designjunction for the London Design Festival and will feature a star line-up of international speakers.
Designjunction PechaKucha Night will be held on Friday 23 September 7pm – 10pm - invite only.
